Angus Advantage Foundation Female and Bull Sale

The Angus Advantage (AA) team held another great Foundation Female and Bull Sale on Saturday, April 17. This was the first time a sale was held on one of the participating Angus Advantage farms. Wolfgang and Ingeborg Lotz, owners of FairCrest Angus hosted the sale and ordered some beautiful weather for the day.

A large crowd was on hand for the event and everyone enjoyed the Certified Angus Beef® ribeye steak sandwiches, prepared by the North Carolina (NC) Junior Angus Association. These juniors also sold raffle tickets and are earning money toward hosting the Eastern Regional to be held in Raleigh in June.

Callie Birdsell from the NC Junior Angus Association thanked the Angus Advantage for their support. This has been the second AA sale where they have allotted time for a semen and embryo auction in support of the Eastern Regional. The auction went very well, raising $5,100 for this event.

Tom Burke from the American Angus Hall of Fame managed the sale. The females averaged over $2,000 and grossed $133,350.

The volume buyer of the sale was Brad Schulte from Woodruff, SC. The top-selling open heifer was Back Creek Elite N77 sired by SA Neutron 377. She sold for $2,000 to Paul Gragg. Edson Ward from Elizabeth City, NC, purchased two top-selling bred heifers. These heifers were flush mates out of the Sitz Henrietta Pride 888 cow that has a progeny weaning ratio of 105 on 11 natural calves and a progeny yearling ratio of 104 on nine head. They were safe to War Alliance 9126 6006 and sold for $2,300.

High-selling cows were purchased by Harry Meyer of Johnstown, Colorado; Tiara Farms of Graham, NC, and Pineview Farms of Hamptonville, NC.

The Angus Advantage Team would like to thank all their customers for their support of their program. The Angus Advantage motto coined by Joe Hampton is “We are only successful if our customers are successful.”

In addition to FairCrest Angus, the AA team involves Joe & Robin Hampton of Back Creek and Ike & Kathrine Jackson of Pasquotank Farms. They were all on hand for the sale.

Purebred customers of the Angus Advantage also have the “advantage” of being able to consign cattle to the annual Friends of the Angus Advantage Sale held in June in Dobson, NC. This sale is held at the farm of Mike Gillispie, another AA friend. This year, the sale is slated for June 12. There will be 65 lots in the sale including a group of 25 of the best bred heifers ever offered at the Friends Sale. Come out to Dobson on June 12 and see how your herd can have the Angus Advantage.

Angus Advantage Friends Sale

The third annual Angus Advantage Friends Sale was held on Saturday, June 12, at Mike Gillispie’s farm in Dobson, NC. The weather was actually very pleasant and comfortable. A good crowd of around 100 people filled the stands and everyone enjoyed a ribeye steak sandwich lunch prepared by the NC Junior Angus Association. Proceeds from this meal went to help pay for the Eastern Regional the following week in Raleigh.

Before the sale, Dr. Carm Parkhurst, a NC Junior Angus Advisor reported that $40,000 has been raised for the Eastern Regional and that more than one-fourth of that amount was actually raised from semen sales at Angus Advantage Sales. The Angus Advantage group should be commended on this. Five units of Ironwood New Level were sold at this sale for the Regional, also.

The top-selling lot at this sale was W219 of W97 Dateline consigned by W4 Farms of Elkin, NC. This good Connealy Dateline daughter sold for $4,600 to Bennie Torres of Circle T in Mount Airy, NC. This bred heifer was safe to Bon View New Design 878. Mr. Torres also purchased the next four top-selling lots, which were all bred heifers selling for $3,500 each. Three were Back Creek consignments sired by Leachman Right Time with two being safe to B/R New Frontier 095 and one safe to Sitz Alliance 6595. The other $3,500 lot was a Deep Creek Farms consignment that was sired by GDAR SVF Traveler 234D. Bennie Torres was also one of the volume buyers for the sale.

The high-selling cow/calf pairs were Sitz Barbaramere Jet 97, another Back Creek consignment and her SA Neutron 377 heifer calf. This pair brought $3,200. Zeb Russell from China Grove, NC, consigned the other top-selling pair, which also went for $3,200. His Sitz Alliance 6595 cow had done a great job with her Bon View New Design 878 heifer calf. Dave Ridling of Salisbury, NC, bought the top-selling cow, Sitz Barbaramere Nell 1885. The Angus Advantage group consigned this awesome Pathfinder dam. She sold for $3,000 and is sired by QAS Traveler 23-4.

The forty-eight lots that sold in the sale grossed $123,075 and averaged $2,565. Grandview Womack, Pembroke, KY, was volume buyer with six head.

The Angus Advantage group and all their friends would like to thank everyone who attended this sale and who worked to make it such a success. They would also like to remind everyone of their Performance-Tested Bull Sale on November 11, 2004, in Clinton. This year will be very special with the sale being held on Veteran’s Day. There will be about 265 bulls to sell with a bull to fit everyone’s pasture. Don’t forget that you can see this sale via satellite and even bid without leaving the comforts of your own home. You can also use the conference call to place a bid. With the free delivery option on the bulls, all you really have to do is select a bull, bid and write a check. What an advantage!
