Pasquotank Farms is located in Pasquotank County, North Carolina in the northeastern "Tidewater" region of the state. Its origin dates to 1879 when Ike Jackson's great grandfather, Isreal Davis, purchased a tract of land at the courthouse door. That property is still an integral part of the operation today. Ike and Kathrine Jackson are the fourth generation to farm this fertile land. Their children who own cattle within the Pasquotank herd will continue the agricultural tradition of this family.
Today Pasquotank Farms is a diversified agricultural business consisting of corn, soybeans, small grains, potatoes and Angus cattle. The Jacksons derive their living from this farm. The great majority of cows in the current herd, now numbering 85, brood cows, descend from the first purebred cows purchased by Ike's father, Mr. T. Jackson, Jr., in the mid-1950s. His philosophy was to buy the best bulls he could afford, keep their daughters to expand the herd, and then purchase another bull to use on them. This philosophy led to the development of cattle that are artificially inseminated, and other modern tools have been employed to strengthen the basic philosophy. Brood cows that raise big calves, rebreed, and maintain their body condition in this environment produce bulls that will work anywhere.
A commitment to provide bulls that will give the commercial producer the best possible opportunity to make a profit has led to an association with Back Creek and FairCrest Angus known as the Angus Advantage. Sharing a common philosophy has enabled these three firms to deliver quality bulls in volume to commercial producers.
